Generally in the spring of the year and if you already have it in the general shape you like just buzz off the new, lighter green growth. If it's out of control, I'd let a pro take the first swipe and keep it up from there. If you really want to do it yourself then shape it without cutting down to the brown areas of the hedge. It could kill the plant. GOOD LUCK!!

Do the sides first. Bringing your trimmer up to cut. Not too deep or you'll have a bunch of exposed sticks. Trim the top next. Then champer the edges. Then rake out the debree. This will expose any wild strands. Trim these off. Then clean up the mess.
Clean up sometimes takes longer than trimming does.

In order to get my hedges straight, I make a "sight line." I then follow the line with my trimmer.

You call up a landscaper and let THEM do it! That is, if the hedge you are referring to is of the plant variety...otherwise, you're on your own, honey.

OR you could go to a spa and have a beautician do it.

In both cases: PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!

Take some really small scissors and be careful around the sensitive areas... you don't want to get hurt. Go slow and don't get overwhelmed by the jungle down there!

lol Kari. Use small scissors, or beard trimmers. I use my husband's beard trimmers, & they work great(I hope he doesn't see this) makes your bush look more evenly trimmed.

the size of the bush determines the size of the clippers you use...choose wisely and clip away!
