I remember very clearly some thirty-five years later now the first time I kissed my bride-to-be. I knew that kiss would not go on forever, but it was a very serious matter to me then, and remains among the most important things to me still.

Just because something is not permanent does not deny it value. Longevity is but one measure of worth. Indeed, as I have grown old and encumbered with weltschalung (world weariness) I have come to view longevity as something of a curse--not so much that I am prepared just now to end it precipitously--but neither is its end such a fearful thing.

Take it seriously while you can, and live it as well as you are able. It will be over soon enough.

We all have free agency in this life, and also face responsibilty for our choices.. perhaps some people have an inner desire to become better people and learn from their mistakes. Some people believe in life after death. That this life is just a small part of eternity.

Don't take life seriously because you will never get out of it alive anyway. Some people do because they believe that they will be rewarded or punished for what they did. Or for other non-believers of afterlife, they want to create heaven on earth.

you can't answer this question without somehow throwing religion in the mix...I know that I don't take life seriously because I don't concern myself so much with the superficial variables of everyday life.

i couldnt agree with u more. Its a problem of short sightedness if u ask me. enjoy life ...chase ur dreams...but dont get too obsessed with it. thats why there are so many depressed ppl in this world. u cant bring ur wealth to the grave anyway. there are more important things to consider

Because, despite all their beliefs otherwise, they don't truly believe there is anything beyond death, so they live for the now. The members of only one large scale religion does otherwise.
