An A.A. is an Associates of Arts degree.
A.A.S. is an Associates of Applied Science.

My daughter is earning her A.A. because she is continuing her degree.
My husband has an A.A.S. as he wanted it for his work with computers. (Of course this was 20+ years ago.)
You can link to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_degree

Sometimes the requirements for each degree differ and getting the AA might work out better in your career path because more credits might transfer. I kow this was the case with my AA and AS i got a majority of crdits to transfer in order to complete my BS. I would check with a schools counselor. Good luck!
