I'm going to be doing the same thing, but not in public school. Probably at the outreach center. I will be teaching about the origins of the dances as well. Some dances you can't really teach though, like krumping, you can give them basics and then they add their own flare. You will probably learn from them as well so that will be great. Good Luck!

Teach them different things about all styles of dance. I took dance in high school and LOVED it! We did a lot of jazz and ballet and some hiphop. We did tricks across the floor and worked out to build up our strength. We held a concert every semester for the students at school and one after school for the parents. It was one fot he best things I ever did in high school because I was also on the dance team and became captain my senior year.

Hip Hop is big with the kids. All of my beginning teen students tell me that they just want to learn stuff they see in music videos. However, it's hard to find edited/clean music. I know all of Walmart's music is pre-edited. So, that is your best bet. GOOD LUCK!

let them have sum fun with it...do some hip-hop dancing and some more modern dances that they will enjoy and find cool, then go back to the older dances so they can see where it all came from.

I say you teach them everything you know and for the mid-term if you have them tell them that they can make there own routines...that would be really fun!
