The same way people give names like Katy but spell it as Katie or Gina as Geena, etc and so on.
I think it's just a way to differentiate their child from the other to be unique.
The pronounciation's the same though, the worst is when they can't say it right!

Maybe because it's probably short for Judith, with an i in the middle instead of a y.
