yes. it is not necessaary and can be rude. If it is a long term rship, can you learn the language??? Tell him you do not like it. But obviously if he is on the phone to a relative in a different country who does not speak english, then he has no choice. I personally would not tolerate this but we're all different

My wife is from Indo-China and she speaks her own language all the time, it's natural. I speak several languages, but I'm struggling to learn hers. That is the key though, spend every moment with teach yourself books and learn to join in. If your partner loves you, he/she will translate, but this does become tedious for them. Invert your problem and imagine rolls reversed, would you not be speaking to your friends and family?

You kinda get used to it. My partner is from another country and he speaks to his friends and family in his language and you just get used to it.

I wouldn't feel paranoid but I would think it was rude and very bad manners. They should include you in their conversation and say what they are talking about. Learn their language and they should learn your's then use both languages.

the question is does the family and mates know how to speak your language? if they do, then maybe they just feel comfortable using their native language.

I would hate that. I would ask him to translate and even teach me the language. I have a friend who does that, and it annoys me so much...he thinks I'm paranoid and just being stupid...but you never know what they are saying.

No I wouldn't. he feels at home when he speaks his own language, there is no harm in it. I speak seven languages, my wife never objects.

yes he is being very ignorant.
But how can he be your "partner" if he treats you like this? ..
Put it this way if you were in THEIR country, how do they treat women there? Like cattle or posessions? I'd think very carefully about what you are getting into here.
