Memory = Short term & Long term
Short term = RAM, CMOS (powered by battery)
Loss of power wipes short term memory
Long Term = ROM, Hard Drives, Removeable media, etc.
Loss of power will NOT wipe long term memory
If you pull the cables, anything in RAM that was not saved to any of the other types mentioned above will be lost.
However, if the system is up and running and you cut the power without properly shutting the system down, you could corrupt or lose data on those devices. Shut it down or disconnect them properly first.

As long as you have saved all work in progress, then you can safely disconnect the cables from the back of the Tower, as far as the memory erasing, NO it does not, it releases the data, and the dll files, but does not actually erase anything.. Good Luck

The memory (RAM) "erases" when the computer reboots.
If you disconnect the cables, the hard drive will not erase.

you could completly take it apart and put it back together and the only thing that will erase is the time and log on passwords if you only take the battery out

no it shouldn't if it is off. now if it is on it shouldn't either because it is like cutting off the power. i've done it before. it only will lose what you don't save to your harddrive.
