Your question is incomplete.

If you mean C^2 - 16 = 0 then C = 4 or -4
If you mean C^2 - 16 then unless you know what C is, you can't determine the result.

For the former, you can do it in two different ways.
1)
C^2 - 16 = 0
C^2 = 16
C = +/-sqrt(16)
C= +/- 4

2)
C^2 - 16 = 0
C^2 - 4^2 = 0
(C+4)(C-4)= 0
C=4 or c=-4

If "C" is simply a variable, the expression needs to be set equal to some value in order to solve for C. If C is the speed of light, take 186,000mps or 300,000kps, square it and subtract 16.

C is 4 because 4 time 4 is 16. Hope this helps. God bless.
