Everything that goes in front of your eyes on a television went there because someone wants you to see it.

If you want to test it, just ask people what is best, a PC or a mac.

If they say mac, then ask them why. Most people will not be able to come up with any real criteria. It is like a programmed response to the current commercial.

The "masses" form unfounded opinions based on TV. It is scary!

Who do you think really drives the wars that we have?

If you subtract the media, i guarantee you things would be different!

Try this sometime: in the middle of a show, snap yourself out of watching it, and look at the face of someone who is watching it with you.

I've done that and it creeps me out every time. Like the people I'm sitting with are temporarily gone.

Short answer: yes, we're influenced through it all the time, but in fact, the real danger of the beast is the passivity it breeds in us. I know I "get dumb" with too much passive entertainment. Too easy to be preoccupied, etc.

And video games, though great fun, are not what I mean here. Video games are very good at zeroing in on one behavior and amplying its effect. But reality demands all of us.

Playing ultimate frisbee, or throwing a boomerang, or playing catch - heck, a board game like Monopoly with the family... this exercises so much more of our total being.

If you see and watch all the stupid and sub standard shows and programs that permeate television I would say yes. It is used to idiotize them in order to control them.

But then you watch great programs, documentaries, and series, and you think that there is still hope...

Jimdog, listen very carefully. We know who you are and we know where you live. Stop talking about this. We don't need the masses getting out of control. If you don't quit, we will force you to watch Charlie's Angels episodes until you go insane.

you can't just stop watching tv...i think you should study trends in television and ways by which it controls the masses - the more informed you are, the better prepared you are to either fight it or passively ignore it...

I think television is being used to destroy the masses. Destroy our moral
fiber, destroy our youth, distort our views, and incite violence and immorality.

I do enjoy television, but there is so much that is bad about it. That includes the news.

of course it is, along w/internet, print media. That's why the masses have to be selective about what media they open themselves up to cause if we act like sheep, we're going to be led like sheep.
