My friend bought an suv, he put spinners on it. when i asked him why did he purchase a suv, he said "because everybody else is buying them". I then asked why he got spinners, and he said "thats what everybody else puts on an suv". - does everybody just follow the crowd, or do you do your own thing?

I do my own thing because when I just follow the crowd, I'm not being myself. I personally think it's dumb to follow the crowd, because your not being you. I also kinda understand why people do it though because they just want to fit in. I just enjoy being myself rather than being what I'm not.

I don't and not because I'm trying to be totally outside the group. But doing all that stuff is very expensive and why be a sheep for the rest of your life? I mean hell when the time is right and your friend tries to get a girl, she is not going to want to be with him because he is being like everyone else and has the same debt problems going on. Ppl want to find individuals out of the group, not like everyone looking and acting the same. So tell your friend to be himself and let go all that en masse doing things. Because its only hurting himself in the end.

People who usually claim to do "their own thing" are easily fooled into thinking that they are doing "their own thing" when in reality, they are actually doing someone else's "thing" and don't even realize it.

Following the crowd may come voluntarily and sometimes involuntarily. Sometimes, it might actually even be a bad thing to "do your own thing." Following the crowd isn't always a bad thing, but if you let it get to your head, it can be.

I just do what I want (even if it sometimes involves following the crowd). Don't be held back by the ugliness of conformity. It can often be comforting. But always remember to stay true to yourself. In the end, you're all you've got.

There are two sets of folks. Sheople and others. Sheople are 95 percent of the population, who do not have the ability to think for themselves, and like someone else to do their thinking for them. You can spot them a mile off. They'll be wearing the latest fashions, and doing the latest hip things simply because they are the latest. They haven't yet grown up. In fact many people never do grow up.
These are the people who spend their lives wondering what other people think about them.
The other group don't care what other people think about them. The more important thing is what they think about themselves.

To answer your question, I definitely do my own thing.

I do my own thing. I actually laugh at people that try to follow trends.
They may laugh at me for not knowing the latest in style or who or what is in or out.....But I have the last laugh.
I do not live vicariously through others.
I am ME and I do not care who is sleeping with who, who is engaged to who or what the Hell they wore to a party!
Most of it looks very stupid.
I like the way I think more than the way anybody else thinks.
That's it and I am happy.

I think it is absolutely hilarious that basically every person has said that they do their own thing. With the number of conformists in this world, it is very doubtful that we happened to stumble upon a message board filled only with people who don't "follow the crowd."

I am a own thing kinda girl. I dont feel like it is really worth it to follow the crowd, but I dont go out of my way to be extream either. Just look at all the people who go goth just to be different. Just like everyone else does. Not knocking goth, dont get me wrong, but you gotta do it for you, not for anyone else.

everyone is a conformist to a certain extent- and thats not necessarily a bad thing, its human nature -- but there are others that try hard to break the conformity more often than others that are okay with simply following trends.
