It is a new computer with incredible amounts of GB. I have barely
done any downloads so the hard drive should not be almost full?
When I try to do a disk defrag, I get the same information about the
hard drive (almost full).

you are probably looking at the wrong partition. Many new computers come with a "System restore drive". Its the other drive where all your data is stored. The one you are looking at probably isnt the one you save data to. You should see 2 drives when you open my computer. The other one is the one you should be looking at

You should check the properties of all the folders in your hard drive to see what takes up unusual amount of HD space. It is possible that your computer is filled with spyware or useless graphics from cache memory.

Are you checking the main partition? or the Backup/recovery partition.
The main partition (usually C) should have plenty of room, the Backup/Recovery Partition (usually D) will be almost full.

your computer is full of it.

go to my computer, right click and see how much capacity it has, and how much it has left. if it's really empty, then don't bother doing any more defrags, you really don't need to do it.

You may want to repartition it/ chances are it is set up wrong and that partition space hasn't been made available for use.
