No. A Democratic candidate I'm currently campaigning for is a 16 year veteran of the FBI. She is anything but soft on illegal drugs.

I thought Carter was going to make pot legal in the 70s, but he got too much flack on that. I think Democrats see the difference between some drugs and others. Right now this so called “war” has been going on for about 35 years, lots of people make their living on both sides of the issue. The drug dealers don't want it legal, they would loose their profit. Law enforcement doesn't want it legal, they make their living off it.
The last time American's tried to make a popular drugs prohibited it made infamous criminals like Al Capone, and jumped started the riches of the Kennedy's.. Now we are making rich gangs that made the worst of these criminals look like boy scouts.

No, that is absolutely false. We just have a different opinion as to how it should be handled. Obviously the way it has been handled up to this point isn't doing anyone any good. As we have not even begun to make a dent in the drug problem.

The war on drugs is a complete waste of our government's time. Legalize it and then seriously control it's distribution (just like alcohol). As long as it's illegal, you can't control it.
