They probably got insurance money, Thank God New Orleans should become a national park with marshes. It isnt worth rebuilding and selling the house for $20.00 was a very wise decision.

No! there isn't much you could do with $20 anyway I would wait until after I wouldn't be in a hurry to get 20 dollars you could action it on ebay I'm sure someone or even company would pay more than that.

I would repair it personally-But I can't imagine going thru the trauma of hurricane katrina-maybe just to let it go was easier emotionally for your mom's friend.

They probably got a good settlement from their insurance. Maybe the place where they lived wasn't worth anything after such a tragedy?

Depends on my money situation, if I had the cash to spare and I didn't have to make money off the house to survive I would give it away.
