well, adjusted for inflation the orginal Star Wars movie would of grossed 1.3 Billion Domestically, which is double a Titanic and over triple the lates spider-man movie. I would say it might, but it will be very difficult. What won't happen is a successfull movie followed by 5 sequels/prequels. That will never happen, at least not at the same aptitude as Star Wars. BTW, only one movie grossed more than Star Wars when adjusted to inflation: Gone with the Wind......1.4 Billion Domestically

Umm..to the person above me. Birth Of A Nation came out a century ago--did it not? I beleive the question was *will* any movie have as big an impact on society--will being the operative word. Not did any *other* movie have as big an impact on society.

Difficult to predict, but my guess would be "no".
The entire "Star Wars" franchise is actually a tale of sin and redemption; a morality play, darkness vs. light. The hero becomes a villian, who repents and becomes a hero again before he dies. What is not to like?
That is the ultimate pull of "Star Wars". Not the tech, not the special effects. Morality. How many movies can pull this off, without specifically preaching a particular theology?

Birth Of A Nation. It jumpstarted the rebirth of the KKK which I daresay probably had a bigger effect on the world than turning a couple million kids into ubernerds...
