Computer talk show host Leo LaPorte is a big fan of Adobe Premier Elements (simpler version of AP) ... I have it and it seems pretty capable of doing most things I want to do, but I haven't had much time to work with it yet. It is not free, but much cheaper that than the full-featured ones.

iMovie comes free with Macs. Anything worth a damn will cost you or you will have to spend the whole night trying to download the program and trying to find a crack for it. Here are some winners either way.
Adobe Premier
Final Cut Pro

No good video editing programs are free unfortunately. However, you can try to rip off Adobe Premire which is pretty sweet. ?
You can probably find it on LimeWire, or a torrent at piratebay.org
