Being in charge of things can feel nice at times. Gives you a chance to shine to your superiors and show that you're good for the next promotion and all that. Managing personnel is a different challenge than doing the job itself, that is true, and when yearly evaluation time comes around, doing a good job as a supervisor can really help you out. I know that my little stint working one or two rank levels above my current rank will help me out comes eval season
On the other hand, a supervisor has to be responsible for all of his people. Needs to be able to account for their time and whereabouts during worknig hours, keep track of just about everything, while getting the job done in the end. It can be very stressful, especially when dealing with less than professional individuals, people who don't seem to understand who the boss really is, and having to deal with every single crimp that might come up. Also, if there is a crap storm coming from above towards one of your subordinates, you're the one who's going to get it and you get to pass it on downwards.
Being the workee, really, just means you ahve to follow directions and get the job done. If anything, just do your ob well and you'll shine. But on the other hand, if you have a great idea about how to improve a situation or fix a problem, unless you have a good supervisor who'll make sure your name comes up, you'll never get the credit for it.
In the end, both present different challenges and tasks with their pros and cons.
So here we go. I like employee because of the simplicity involved, and boss because it's by displaying leadership and management abilities my career is going to advance.

The employee! I was the boss for three miserable years. I had no life outside of work. I was forced to leave my cell phone on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including when I was on vacation! I don't miss the responsibilites at all.

The best employees are both good leaders and good followers.
Everyone has a boss of some sort.

I definitely prefer being the boss. I can't stand having to work for people. I need things done my way. Everyone is so different in their own little way and likes things done different. That's why I can't stand working for people.
