i'm a 10th grader and my teacher said it has to be high schoolish, not junior high. any real interesting or good topic ideas you have

Acid-base indicator colour change. You can even make it with some plants. All you will need is vinegar and baking soda to change the pH of your indicator/water solution.

See the attached link for the list of indicator you can select. You can make it very colourful (just do not mix acid -- like the vinegar --directly with a base -- like baking soda -- or you will end up with lots of foam and a big mess to clean)

You can monitor the rate of chemical reactions or biological growth by using a digital camera linked to a computer. The RBG readings make a cheap spectrophotometer. Algae grows in light, so a camera could be used to measure the rate of growth under different lighting conditions. A somewhat more interesting experiment would be to measure movement toward light. do something with microbiology. Dealing with bacteria. Chemical extraction is good, but there is no unknown that you are trying to get at. Try to isolate certain bacterias from different places. (i.e. cell phones, shopping carts, gym equipment.) If you do some good research you can find different agar plates and test tube tests. Good Luck
