It seems to cost them 5 times the amount of money to do things we could do ourselves much cheaper, such as their holidays.....actually i have never been on a holiday because i cant afford it.

yes, they do spend too much of our money. we pay their wages. do you realise how many people would get fired if they gave themselves a pay raise without asking their boss? why do we allow this to continue? i think we should fire the lot and start all over again.

Yes they spend more money in other countries, also more money. We have the homeless, shortage on work
due to our big companies going over seas. Many with no health insurance here or life insurance. Some eat little food here as well. With the cost of living constantly going up even the so called middle class have difficulty in making ends meet.. Out utility bills rise and never lower.
Gas for our cars/trucks still too high. It's like ok Mr. President in the White House please hear my pleas,
do something more positive on these things, so a positive
change can be made. If there is no change the poor and middle class will be in ruins. Sometimes I feel you raise prices where they should not be in order to provide to others in far away lands. We should come first wouldn't you think kind sir?

Certainly there are inefficient programs in the government, but despite what you hear, there are very efficient ones as well.

For instance, while private insurance companies spend almost 20% of gross on administration costs, Medicare spends less than 5%.

The link below discusses some of the false promises of privatization in medicare.

In Texas, there were similar promises of vast savings from the privatization of many social service administrative functions. However, not only have these savings failed to appear, the government has been forced to pay the private companies despite them not actually doing the job, and so also pay the original public workers.

So while I'm all about getting rid of waste and ineffective spending, lets not condemn the entire institution.

Well, there's not much that can be done about that. Governments generally waste most of what they spend. Our founders had the idea of limiting government to the minimum necesssary functions and that worked for a while.

The problem is now they ignore the constitutional limits and try to do more and spend more and the result is waste more.
