Interesting question. I'd love to know what the lecture was about.

On an educational level I know what I know because I read. I read constantly, both fiction and non-fiction.

On a mechanist level I know what I know because it is encoded into the pattern of electrochemical connections between the neurons in my brain.

On an educational level you don't know how to know because you have not picked up the habit of constantly acquiring knowledge.

On a mechanist level you don't know how to know because you have a flaw in either the complexity or electrochemical balance in your brain.

I will only answer the later half..

You do know how to gain knowledge, you just demonstrated it by asking the question. Well done.

I know what I know from being taught by my mother & father and just by trial and error, and the reason you don't know how to know is probably your not trying or using your full potential of your brain - not everyone know's what everyone else know's. Everyone know's something that no one else in the world know's. If that doesn't make sense to you think I suggest you to talk to a Psychiatrist. (No offence)

a knower knows how to know only if he has the curiosity and determination to know - he finds out a way to know.
some of us don't know because we are lazy enough and do not have curiosity nor the determination to know.

I listen.
I listen well.
And I read.
Try only reading and listening for one day - do not speak. See how much more you learn.

Give me best answer after you've tried this.
