July? man that's a freakin long time ago... sprains usually dont swell that long... im not so sure but it sounds like you got some kind of fracture. the best thing to do right now is go to a doctor preferably an orthopedic surgeon. and i mean ASAP!

That is only a month ago. A sprain can sometimes take longer than a break to heal. I sprained my ankle a few years ago, just missed a two inch step and fell out of my high heeled sandals. I had to wear a black strapping brace for about a month. Then it was still weak for about six months. I have to be really careful now because if I twist it sometimes I can feel that same sprainlike feeling. Hopefully you got an xray to make sure it wasn't broken too. You may need some physiotherapy to strengthen the muscles after you have recovered too.

No questions about it, go for the X-ray. Believe me, I've had my fair share of ankle, wrist and knee injuries that i know just how nasty any injury to an articulation gets.

About six or seven years ago I blew my left ankle. The docs were all in agreement: I would have been better off breaking my ankle than spraining it as bad as I did. As for not being able to run, I wasn't able to walk for a month, and Iwas limping for almost two, and never mind running for close to 4 months.

Take it very easy on that ankle, and no matter what I would recommend you deal with a physiotherapist. I didn't for my own ankle, and every time I run for more than 3 or 4 miles I'm starting to feel it again.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Sometimes a sprain can be worse than a break. A few years ago I sprained my ankle and at first my doctor thought it was broken, but the X-rays suggested otherwise. I had broken my foot before and had not needed a cast, but somehow I needed a cast for my sprained ankle and it stayed on for 6 weeks. You definitely need to see a doctor about this, it could be serious.

I "rolled" my ankle. After two weeks of pain I went to the doctor. X-rays were taken and it was determined that I had broken my ankle. The problem was that it had started to heal wrong. That was twenty years ago. When I get home from work (I do construction) I mow the lawn, do errands, etc, because when I take my boot off, it's not going back on until the next day because of the swelling. I can't take walks through the woods like I used to and dancing is out. Heed my advise and see your physician asap.

I would get an x-ray. Although, sprains hurt like crazy, it's best to know. Safe than sorry. That is if you want to continue playing bball. I have sprained mine a few times. Ice and heat alternating helped with pain (heat) and swelling (ice). My Mom broke hers and that was over 2 yrs ago. She is still having trouble with it because she didn't follow the drs orders before or after surgery. I hope it turns out well for you.

I have never sprained my ankle, but a very dear friend of mine who was a basketball player has. This is her answer:

"Get an X-Ray, or an MRI if you have the means. Don't delay. You have no idea what kind of damage could be lying underneath what you think is just an ankle sprain. The pain might not be there, but the damage could, and if you don't attend to the damage, you could ruin your ankle for life."

an x-ray really wont help just go to the sports store and buy an air cast wear for a couple weeks and then take it off whenever you play bball wear an ankle brace that laces up the front make sure u wear long socks with it cause it will rub a spot in the back of your ankle if you dont
