First, take a second to look at your study habits. During the past two years, did you pass on study time to go to parties, or or other social events, when you should have been doing homework, or cramming for a test? It is very important you find time to both do all of your homework, and study when needed.
If this was not your problem, maybe it was the way you were studying. Were you sitting in front of the TV, trying to multi-task? (A little calc, a little Friends, every things good...) I've found that studying in this manner is pretty distracting. It tasks me a lot longer, and I don't do as well on my homework and on tests. Of this is your problem, you should try studying in a quiet area, away from TV and headphones.
Or maybe, you should look at your course load. Maybe you are just taking too many classes, or some of your classes are too hard? For instance, maybe you are taking an advanced English class, but you are not ready for the course load, and should be taking the regular English class.
I hope that you find your answers through someones advice, and achieve your goal this year!

first you have to set priorities -what is it that is holding you back- the best way to do that is to soul search- do you think that you are a bad student, are there activities that draw your attention away from school, do you have bad study habits, is your school or home life hectic that you can't get any work done. Try to evaluate what those things are and make a plan
make sure to remember these points while planning
#1 don't procrastinate with assignments talk with your teacher about the trouble that you have with work and have him or her to assist you maybe they can offer an extention
#2 find a nice quiet area to do your work- library quiet area in your house anywhere to get away -use ear plugs
#3 find a nice website to help you learn studying, critical reading and good writing skills
#4 do not get frustrated I was a bad student and an awful speller and writer (still am) and I have 2 degrees now so hang in there
If you parents can afford a tutor do so, Find a study group (one that really studies) if not start one, if tutoring is offered at school go for it.
I have a sneaking suspicion that you might feel sad about this so cheer up
You might have to drop the student helper gig, but it might be to your advantage because some of those students might be able to help you.

I have a few habits as a college student. First I keep a datebook with all important due dates for papers, tests, and quizzes. I also set aside a time to study for me it is after my kids go to bed. I picked 9:00, but set aside a specific time and if for some reason you can't study then, fit it into yoour schedule in some other part of the day. Reading material every day keeps you up on what's going on.

When I went with my daughter to her freshman orientation, she had the same Algebra I teacher I had my freshman year. He gave them some advice I wish I had paid more attention to in his class. He said once you get behind, it's hard to keep up from then on. If you don't understand something, ask for help. That's what they are there for, and usually they are willing. The next most important is DO your homework. Make it a habit. Devote a certain amount of time to it each evening, and even if you don't have any, at least review. Once you let yourself get out of the habit, it's too easy to make excuses not to do it.

You may need additional tutoring help in your subjects and you may need to better your reading skills, as this is the basis for all other subjects. Check with your school counselor.
