I haven't seen it, although I'm from High Point ( her hometown )
If there was anything exciting happening in High Point, they made it up.

Since I'm not an avid watcher of the American Idol and although I knew who she was and where she was from, I didn't watch the program (I've had about enough of Reality TV).
The movie had some big name stars Loretta Devine and Kadeem Hardison (who I think would be a great director), the guy that played her boyfriend has been in numerous TV programs and Fantasia wasn't too bad. So if a person was watching to critique the acting and writing, they totally missed the point.
The main point -- DON'T QUIT! What she said, she quit school, her mother and grandmother quit their dreams -- enough quitting had taken place in her family and it was time some broke the cycle.
There were other issues that she had to deal with being raped, becoming a teen mother, almost becoming a victim of domestic abuse, illiteracy, teen high school dropouts; however, she knew she had a child that was depending on her and she didn't want the cycle to continue with her daughter.
Some people will critique the acting and writing and not mention the message or messages. The messages are for every person that has foun themselves dealing with adverse situations and that you can come out of them.
There are probably many teenagers who log on and read these postings and I want to say to you, stay in school and get your education. Don't allow other peoples negative attitudes to stop you from achieving whatever that goal is. Another school year is upon us and your current job is to get your education.
Yes, there are some young teen Mothers and Fathers that have had to grow up before his/her time. There are young teens who live in situations where they have also had to become the adult in their home and missed out on being a teen. I say to you the best thing you can continue to do for yourself and your child is to complete your education. Don't go for the drop-out thing thinking you'll get your GED, news flash, I hear the GED is harder than graduating from high school. Whatever you need to do to graduate from high school -- one of which I recommend is staying on top of your academic advisor (if your high school has one) -- if you need a tutor, push for one; if you are a high school student with a 3.0 average or higher, you don't have to work at BK or McD or any fast food restaurant or retail stores -- the federal government have student jobs during the summer so bug you academic advisor to obtain a list of student jobs. Or you can access that information by accessing the below weblinks. The last weblink listed is to the Department of Bureau and Labor Statistics. They list various skilled and non-skilled jobs and what the salary and positions projections are in the next five years.
Oh and sweetthang93 stop hating-- Fantasia recv'd 4 Grammy Nominations for her album --Best Female R&B Performance, Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song for Free Yourself and Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for "Summertime." Her song to "all my baby's mamas", after seeing the movie, I further understand the song.
And Kayte -- not stupid but naive and she was, I say was an illiterate woman. That was one of the points of the movie, she even speaks about it at the end of the movie. Just because her reading skills were not up to par, she missed a part in the Dream Girls movie.

Her story b4 American Idol is very similar to a lot of young females coming from the inner city. Overall I thought the movie was pretty good. I was surprised to find out that she had been raped in high school, that's just wrong. But I think it was a good depiction of her life. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

i thought that part where they didnt get in and then that lone janitor lets them in is Bull crap.
I dont see why they couldnt do a movie about clay aiken, no offense but a movie about a 19yr old single mother who makes it big is old and tired. But a movie about a male who's in college working with special needs kids who was turned down at one city cause of his looks then ( actually he was the winner and we all know it =) comes in 2nd and outsells the winner is unusual.
I voted for fantasia, I think she's one of a kind but I prefer Clay =)
ps lol golden, high point is not the inner city

It could have been better. It was kind of blotchy here and there. Her story, however, is a recycled one. Respect to her for making it, I wouldn't knock anyone who has, but the movie was weak. There were highlights ( when she came back to the church ) that hit me and the fact they had highlights from her actual AI performance mixed in for realism was okay. But, in the end it was just another Lifetime movie.

Awesome and outstanding movie! I cried, I laughed and It was more enjoyable because I saw her and voted for her all the way to the end! She deserved to be the american Idol because in Today's world, the poor and abused usually remain poor and abused and she overcame all of that to become what God gave her the talent to be!

It was pretty cool. Nice to see her get to tell such an awesome story. So inspiring. I caught it when it first aired. The only part I hated was how they totally rushed through her time on American Idol! How strange!

I just feel there are people out there more deserving of a movie. No offense to Fantasia.
