Why do professional baseball players, and hockey players spit all over the place?

i am not sure about baseball players. but i know that hockey players dont spit all over the place. during a game they do swish out their mouth with water and spit it out however they dont just go around spitting all over the place. i mean at least not the ones i know from the SJ Sharks.
