Among the other two, the particles that make up atoms include electrons, which orbit the nucleus. As soon as electrons break loose of their orbits, they become ions. Lots of ions moving in the same direction, or in a current, becomes electricity.
Neutrons, along with protons, makes up the nucleus. In a stable element, neutrons balance protons. If the balance is off, you have a piece of a nuke. Protons have a positive charge, and neutrons are, as the name suggests, neutral in charge. Electrons are negative. Altogether, they make up the atom.

Atoms are made up of three atomic particles namely electrons, neutrons and protons. Electrons are the negatively charged atomic particle, protons are positively charged while neutrons have no net charge. Both neutrons and protons are found within the nucleus of the atom while the electrons are orbiting around it.
There are also the sub-atomic particles commonly called quarks.

Atoms are composed of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons from the nucleus of the atom while electrons orbit the nucleus balancing out the positive charge provided by the protons, unless the atom is ionized.

well just to get picky, since the hydrogen atom is only composed of a proton and an electron, presumably the answer to which 3 particles make up ALL atoms should be - the up-quark (u), down-quark (d) and electron (e).
with a proton then being composed of two ups and one down, (uud) and the neutron one up and two downs, (udd)

They are right, but it should be in physics, not biology. I'm not trying to be nitpicky, I just want you to know that cells are the basic building block of life, atoms ar the basic building block of everything.
