My husbands job is moving us to Las Vegas, needless to say I am not thrilled about this at all, I am wondering if anyone can give us some advice, seriously it is a place to raise a family or not? I am a four seasons kind of gal from the midwest.

I like you would love to stay in my home state it is where I want to raise my family. I think everyone does, I love where I live and the family roots that are here. You do not even really have cold, there more like warm.. A low of 38 in January is not cold, honey.

I raised three children in Las Vegas, it has its ups and downs, the school system is very large and most will say it stinks but I think if a parent cares the school district has many opportunities for students that are not available in most cities - they have numerous magnet schools for all kinds of things. There are now several parks for children in most areas that are nice. There are a lot of close things to do such as Lake Mead, Mt Charleston, Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon they are all within a 1-2 hour drive depending on where you live. Within a days drive you have several national parks, Zion, Great Basin to name a few. You are within a days drive to San Diego and other places in CA. There are also lots of recreation centers in most neighborhoods that offer classes and sports for the kids.
On the bad side - it is a large city and yes we have crime and other stuff like most large cities
I think if you really give Las Vegas a try and utilize the opportunities available it can be a great place to raise a family.

I moved to Las Vegas at the age of 16. My dad's job transferred him here. I seriously thought my parents were moving us to HELL.
There are some very nice neighborhoods here. The hardest thing to get over is how distant your neighbors will seem. Once you settle in, you will begin to enjoy and get used to being able to shop at many stores at much later hours. If you live on the fringes of Vegas you can enjoy a cozy community and benefits of a great travel destination.
I went out of state for a visit and was upset that the streets seemed to close up at night and that there was nothing to do. Give your self some time. Plus your family and friends will all want to come and visit you since you will now be living in such a fun town.

I lived there for almost a year. My daughter was born there in vegas. But i didn't like it. But we did live in North Las Vegas...I didn't mind the heat. It was the people and the area i live in I think. You can raise a family in Vegas but you have to keep an eye on your kids. Just try it for a while then go from there. Your experience there will most likely be different from mine. Just try it.

There are two different Las Vegas cities. One that people play in and one that people live and work in. If you confuse the two you are in for a miserable life. If you keep them separate you will find Las Vegas a great place to live.

My parents (mom is from the midwest) got moved to Las Vegas a few years ago and love it. They live in Henderson. Awesome neighbors, tons of kids in the neighborhood, and great schools nearby.

Everyone assumes that ALL of Vegas is the Strip or Downtown - all party central and hedonistic. It's not. Once you leave the area of Downtown or the Strip, it's pretty much like Anytown, USA. There's malls. Movie theaters. Banks. Applebee's. Fridays. Golf Courses. Parks. Just like every other town in the US.

My husband and that i have pals in Michigan, and they are continuously commenting about how the business equipment up there is stagnant and that there are not any sturdy job opportunities. i imagine the sensible aspect about your relocation, is the very undeniable actuality that you're shifting to the position you've already got slightly of a help equipment. (Your mom). i imagine it sounds like it will be an excellent chance on your household. Plus, you're job earnings in o.ok.Park is going to replicate the fee of residing for that section, vs. what you're making in Michigan. It seems extreme priced, yet through the time you get accessible, and get positioned along with your jobs, you'll likely no longer even be conscious a distinction. i desire this permits. best of success to you!!!
