I built a small indoor terrarium box for some tropical plants and it was stained yesterday. How soon can I place plants into the box without the stain harming them, or will it do so at all?

I don't think the fumes will hurt, but you do run a chance of leaching the stain into the soil and perhaps poisoning the plants. Very rare though, especially if you let the stain dry. You see planter boxes at all the garden centres all the time...and they are all stained. If you don't want to risk it, you could put a barrier between the wood and soil....plastic could work okay but it may cause condensation and rot your wood eventually.

You need to be sure the stain is dry, but after that you can plant it
