Cat-scratch disease is a usually benign infectious disease, most commonly found in children 1-2 weeks following a cat scratch. The disease begins with a small pustule at the site of the scratch, and painful swelling of the local lymph nodes follows. In more severe cases there may be fever, malaise(tiredness) and anorexia. The disease usually resolves spontaneously, with or without treatment, in one month. In immunocompromised patients more severe complications sometimes occur.

Medically speaking it is an infection brought on by a cat scratch or bite. The area will become red, swollen and painful. You will also get fever and body aches. Most people have no ill effect from cat scratch or bite but some will. This happened to my son when he was about 5 y/o and he spent 5 days in the hospital on an IV just because our cat scratched him on the arm.
Otherwise, it IS a Ted Nugent song!

Cat scratch fever or Cat-scratch disease is a usually benign infectious disease, most commonly found in children 1-2 weeks following a cat scratch. It was first described in 1889 by Henri Parinaud and has been called Parinaud oculoglandular disease and la maladie des griffes du chat. The cat was recognized as the vector of the disease in 1931 by Dr. Robert Debré.
The disease begins with a small pustule at the site of the scratch, and painful swelling of the local lymph nodes follows. In more severe cases there may be fever, malaise and anorexia. The disease usually resolves spontaneously, with or without treatment, in one month. In immunocompromised patients more severe complications sometimes occur.
The causative organism was first thought to be Afipia felis, but this was disproven by immunological studies demonstrating that cat scratch fever patients developed antibodies to two other organisms, Bartonella henselae and Bartonella clarridgeiae, which are rod-shaped Gram negative bacteria.
Kittens are more likely to carry the bacteria in their blood, and are therefore more likely to transmit the disease than are adult cats.

Cat Scratch Fever is a true condition that affects your bodies lymph nodes.
My son had this condition when he was very little. A cat had licked his face and hands, where there were open pores. The cat saliva, when introduced to his system, reacted in a way that caused his lymph nodes to swell to the size of golf balls.
Other than that, try to Google Ted Nugent. :)

A slowly progressive, self-limiting, and chronic lymphadenopathy occurring in children. The first description is credited to Henri Parinaud, with reference in French literature in 1889. Dr Robert Debre was the first to recognize the cat as a vector for this disorder and coined the term "cat-scratch disease" in 1931.
Synonyms: cat-scratch disease, benign lymphoreticulosis, nonbacterial regional lymphadenitis.

I've had it twice, and, yes, a cat had scratched me both times. I had a knot on my neck and ran fever for about 3 days. Penicillin took care of it.
