Do you really want to get the lousy interest that any local bank offers? Use "ING". https://home.ingdirect.com/open/open.asp

They offer 4.35% interest and are huge and you can access them via debit card, etc.

Or if you are really into the Internet use Paypal who offers 5.04% currently.

Emigrant Direct just started offering 5.15% on a direct account. You'll be hard pressed to find a savings account at a local bank (or national bank) with rates as high as 5%.

You can check out www.bankrate.com for more info on the highest rates around the country

I concur with AZJXJZ. I have an internet savings account with both ING Direct and Emigrant Direct. Of course, the bulk of my money is in Emigrant Direct (higher return). I also recommend bankrate.com
