Okay so I was thinking, with all the hatred we have in the world based on ethnic background, America should be the ones to set an example and a precedent. I think we should start legislation for the outlaw of the word "niggger". I think this should be done on the grounds that it is inflamatory and it incites hatred and violence toward a group of people. I would compare it to yelling fire in a crowded theatre. This is not an issue of freedom of speech its an issue of freedom of hate. I dont think we should be free to hate someone based on thier ethnic background. Let me know your thoughts?

Look, I am known to say niggger 90-100 times daily. Sometimes 10 times before breakfast. I just dont want other people to be allowed to say it. I think other people should get arrested for saying it.

You are treading on freedom of speech.

Okay - so they outlaw the "n" word based on the fact that it offends and is a hateful word. So I find the word c*nt very vulgar and demeaning to women. Now that word is outlawed. Next is the word "Christ" because it is taking the lord's name in vain, and the church-going public find the word very offensive. And then, since we are on the whole "offensive" thing, porn should go by the wayside because it is "damaging" to our nation's youth, and serves no good purpose other than committing sin. And then, Yahoo Answers is pulled because stuff posted on here is very angry and hateful towards others, and the opinions on here are obscene and offensive to others.

Basically, where does it end? Once it is started, there is no stopping. You open the door, and there is no closing it.

Sorry...I think it's an outrageous idea. It IS an infringment of free speech whether you believe it or not. There are many things I find extremely objectionable that people say, but I don't have a right to silence those saying them. This whole concept of "hate" crime is ludicrous. People have a right to their thoughts and emotions. If I commit a criminal act, the act is wrong on it's own. It doesn't matter whether I felt hatred or not. Although it's not the Christian way, people do in fact have a right to hate.

America we can love or hate as we wish. Why do I have to agree with you or disagree with you. The colorful adjectives such as niggger, goook,wetb@#k,sandniggger,ragggheadd, Do just that add color to speech, and expression. Freedom of speech is that freedom hate or love speech. Go to France if you can't handle freedom of expression.

I do agree w/you but if the word is used correctly then there would not be a problem. The problem continues bcuz people pass it along (Ex. my niece was at my house and was playing with some other kids later that nite we out to dinner & she said the n word now we do not use it in my house it is a bad word she heard it from the other kids so she repeated it not knowing what it was) innocent kids here it say it and pass it along before long eveyone says it. It sucks too.

Well if you outlaw one word ,there'll be another to take it's place.
And if you outlaw one word, everyone would be up in arms-the Japanese would want you to outlaw "japs"= myself'being over half native american would want to outlaw " injun "----Get what I mean? These awful words will unfortunately be with us-outlawing the words would not stop the underlying feelings of hate and hostility, usually fueled by ignorance and fear. What must be accomplished in America is a coming together of all peoples with one common goal to love one another and accept one another-that , my brother, would make America truly great!!

I don't have a problem with outlawing such a word/term. But, where are you going to draw the line. There's plenty of terms that are used out of hate. Such as those slang terms for homosexuals, Hispanics, etc

And if you agree all condescending terms should be outlawed, then how are we going to police it?

I don't think you can legislate morals and ethics. I think the only way to have a significant impact is for society to deem them unacceptable. Unfortunately, society is made up of humans that don't seem inclined to respect one another.

If that happened, how would black people refer to each other then? Seriously, listen to some rap music....I doubt any white person (or for that matter, any non-black) has used that word in years! Well, maybe in South Carolina....

I agree with the above, all the black rappers would be out of business!!

Are you only saying this cause you are black? Because, then my friend we'd have to oust white honkey, carpet bagger, *******, ****, and so and so on and so on. First guys right, it's just a word.

However, I do agree with you and what you're trying to say. It's a tough world out there. And with this Administration, it's only gonna be tougher.

Hang tight.

thats the deal with freedom of speech though, ( sux dont it) if the boy scouts march down main street to show their pride, so can the KKK. I would like to see that word abolished along with making it a crime to burn the American flag
