it is not by any means a typical cavalier. i need to make sure the boost isnt too much for the engine.

Paul Walker's computer, I'm afraid, came straight from the Hollywood props department. And some of the messages it displayed, such as "Danger to manifold," had real gearheads laughing - that is not a danger a well designed engine should have encountered, and DEFINITELY not something any typical program would have predicted.

That said, I do have a laptop that interfaces with an aftermarket ECU in one of my cars. The program I use is called Megatune, and it interfaces with a ECU called Megasquirt. Check that one out here:

Most other aftermarket ECU's will come with their own tuning software.

Then there are some programs out there that can predict engine performance. Mr. Gasket sells Desktop Dyno and a few similar programs. I think this is their website:

As for programs that predict handling, those are harder to come by. Most of the software out for that is normally only sold to serious race car builders and manufacturers, and it's priced accordingly.
