Portable Document Format (PDF) is a file format proprietary to Adobe Systems for representing two-dimensional documents in a device independent and resolution independent fixed-layout document format.

Each PDF file encapsulates a complete description of a 2D document (and, with the advent of Acrobat 3D, embedded 3D documents) that includes the text, fonts, images, and 2D vector graphics that compose the document.

PDF files do not encode information that is specific to the application software, hardware, or operating system used to create or view the document. This feature ensures that a valid PDF will render exactly the same regardless of its origin or destination (but depending on font availability).

Download Adobe Acrobat Reader to read the PDF files.

Everyone has already mentioned that pdf stands for Portable Document Format and that Adobe Acrobat can open it. However, the reader only allows you to view it, wile Adobe Acrobat, the version that allows editing, can take a LONG time to open. You may also need to pay.

This program is free, opens quickly, opens pdf formats and also allows editing! It is mils better than Adobe.

PDF stands for "Portable Document Format". It is quickly becoming the standard for documents distributed over the Internet. Many people use PDF because it can contain a lot of information in a smaller file than an image file can, and can also be recongnized by almost all computer platforms.

pdf stands for portable document format. It preserves the formating of the file's pages so that it looks the same no matter which computer or system you view it with.

The most common viewer is the Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7 though there are other software programs that do a similar job.

A specific file format that's used primarily for e-books and other similar documents.

Adobe Acrobat, afaik, is the most popular PDF reading software, and should come included with your pc. PDF files enable you to select/copy text, zoom, easily access different chapters and skip through the books, etc.

Systems' Acrobat. PDF is the file format for representing
documents in a manner that is independent of the original
