I had not heard that we have shorter lives. However, I have heard that we are both more artistic and more emotional; however linked those two things may be. I have also argued that we are more creative in the problem-solving sense, in that from earliest childhood we have had to adapt to a right-handed world -- or made it adapt to us.
The point I like to make is that the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body. Therefore, only left-handed people are in their right minds!

No idea if we live shorter lives.
If my own personal family are anything to go by it's not hereditary as my parents were both right handed and so are all 3 of my brothers, I am the only left handed one, also my ex is left handed but we have 3 children all of whom are right handed.

left handedness have not something to do if someone will be extra ingenious or smarter or not. And in case you at the on the spot are not into artwork why did you ask this question because it really is clearly not actual on your case! Creativity and Smartness are on diverse aspects of the mind (left and precise) so that you'll've gotten mixed up so the answer for me a minimum of is, no the myth isn't actual to an volume. * i'm also respectable at like technology and stuff (like I were given 89% very last semester). I do even with the undeniable fact that SUCK at math so i wager there is something about that :P

My father is left handed. Both his parents and both his kids are right handed. He did go to art school and spent a career in the creative end of the advertising business. By the way he is over 70 and in perfect health.

I think some of the myths are true. From my experience, it seems left-handed people are more intelligent. Also, Jimi Hendrix was left-handed, and not only was he artistic, but he was a guitar genius!

I am ambidextrous (can use left & right) So what does that make me???
In truth, myths are myths. Some things MAY be true, but some things are not.
Each person is an individual. Thus, each person has their own gifts & talents. Health, karma & accidents determine death.

They are not true, it's all a bunch of crazy speculation by people trying to validate their weirdness. Being left handed does not grant you any special powers or talents, besides the fact that you can use your left hand well.
Besides, you even said yourself, they are "myths"... Meaning they are not true.

Left handler's are suppose to possess a much highly use of their brain, a much higher I.Q. than the majority of most people. But a good percentage of left handlers also wear glasses since grade school to present date.
