“If you were on a sinking ship and yelled, "Women and children first!" how much feminist opposition do you think you'd get? . . . Women want to fight men for equal pay, but how often do they fight a man for the check? . . . And any man who questions a woman's physical capabilities gets branded a sexist -- but who do they call when there's a spider to be killed? Convenient feminism -- crackpot theory or dangerous lunacy?”

Both men and women, do you agree or disagree?

Personally, I agree that the feminist movement went too far. But at the same time, it is a good thing that there was one, or women would still be 2nd class citizens without any rights.

Women still like to be put in pedestals, as it is something inate to many of us. But we shouldn't have to pay a price for it by losing our fundamental civil rights.

Ultimately it is a matter of common courtesy and consideration.

Also as far as "women and children first" I think that this was an erroneous concept in the Titanic. Woman and children first made many women widows who were forced to raise their children by themselves. Instead they should have let men who were fathers of underage children evacuate with the women, and let the single men and women fend for themselves.

I disagree.

Okay let me settle in. This is gonna take a while...

((Moving around getting comfortable in seat))

First of Bill Maher is a butt. If I was on a sinking ship and they yelled women and children first...HELL NO, I'm not putting up opposition. Trust... when I say this...My child is getting off that boat....I'm a single parent and no one else is there for her, so I'm going too. Yet, if there is a man there who is a single parent himself. They DO need to let him get off that boat with his child, because no child should go alone and he is a perent too.

Hell yeah I want equal pay if I'm doing an equal amount of the WORK. That's not wanting something special, that's just wanting what is right. If I do the my work the same as you or better. YES, I want all my money...don't cheat me cause I got boobs.

If I go out with a man and he offers to pay the check. I'll let him, but don't get it twisted because next time...I will ask HIM out and then pick up the check myself. Hell I got a job I can afford it, but these are just a common sense thing to do.

Hell, Question my capabilities...But not because I'm a woman, cause there are women who are just as a strong as a man, but I'm not strong cause I'm smoke a pack a day and sit in a cubicle for 8 hours. I'M, just not on the healthiest path so I porbably couldn't.

Killing a spider please...Are you serious. My dad screams in highpitched tones when he sees a spider or a snake!!!

Convient feminism is a myth. Because you can't have both ways. Women who still let's the guy pay all te time, and kill their spiders are feminist. They want to be seen as feminist as not to be astosized by real feminist but have a yearning for old fashion lifestyles.

If I was overseas and I was the only person within shot of a sniper ready to pop Bill Maher off. DO you think he would mind if I had a vagina???

Women and children first happened so that whole families wouldn't die when ships went down. The children were the youngest, had the most life ahead of them, and had a better chance of survival and care if their mothers lived as well. So, when the choice HAD to be made, it was made for that reason. The idea was to preserve as many genetic lines as possible.

Convenient feminism is rampant, but I think a lot of women who want to be thought of as "feminists" don't have the slightest notion of the history and necessity of the "feminist" movement in the United States and Britain. Sometimes being a feminist today is about being able to very openly admit that you love lipstick, high heels, and sex with men - and a good fat paycheck to round it out.

Well, I can't answer for the other ladies, but I kill my own spiders, pay for dinner at LEAST half the time and I can move an entire household in less than 2 days. I also prefer wearing makeup, nice clothes and can cook to die for. I don't know if I really should answer this question as I'm a lesbian, but really..it's the same thing. I treat men just as I want to be treated. If the ship is going down, and a guy needs the seat in the life boat more than I do, he's gonna get it.

Around here grandma (that's me) is the one who kills the spiders, because I'm not freakish. I'm not afraid of blood, heights snakes or insects. I don't mind cleaning up cat poop once in a while. If I were drowning, I'd rather have someone like me to try to help me in than half the men I see out there.
Women should have equal pay for equal work, but not all work can be done by women, and I don't think we should all try to be alike. We should all be equally appreciated for what we do and equally loved for who we are. We are different. Some feminists only succeeded in creating widespread resentment, because a lot of young people really don't understand what their roles should be as men and women. Courtesy and dignity have become unfashionable, while pornography, mediocrity and unisex clothing have become the norm (I wear pants too most of the time). But please don't ever ask me to use the chain saw! I like working outside in the garden. My husband is a much better worker, but I do my share around here too. Everyone in this house is valuable and appreciated.
Why must you make it sound like all there is available now is some kind of cheesy battle of the sexes?

Well my mom's guilty of that, lol. The only reason why she feels a man's presence is required is to fix something around the house, change a flat tyre, oh and yeah... to change a light bulb!
If I were in a sinking ship, I'd abide by whatever the ship's captain orders are, either that or go with what my survival instincts are.
I just think that all these sexist/ feminist, what have you's is a bunch of crap anyway.
Personally I don't see any point to it really. Whatever age you're living in, double standards will continue to exist. Truly why can't we just let things be?!

Well I know that man and woman are equal but I wouldnt call myself a feminist. I believe that a woman should have jobs if they want to with equal pay. But I strongly disagree with abortion. Womans right, ha! What about the baby's? Now when it comes to dating, the man pays. Unless its friends or the woman asks the man out, the man should pay because its the polite thing to do. I love a guy with manners and respect. The man is also the provider and protector. I believe he is the head of the house, but he is not a dictator. He may be the head, but the woman is the neck and can turn him any direction she wants. I think the woman should support her husband, but it is a equal partnership. I think the man should give up the boat, but I dont know if I would leave my guy. So I dont believe in the feminist views, but dont believe in a dictator man. The man and woman are still equal, but the man is still the leader.

Interesting quote!

Bill Maher may not be aware, but women and men DO make equal pay for equal work. No need to fight over it. Men, however, often make more money, though, because they can put in the hours that women with babies can't; you'll notice that child-free women make every bit as much as men do.

As for physical capability...*shrug*...so, men are stronger, pound for pound. This is nice, but not very useful in the First World.

As to spiders, well...! I'm female, and you'd better believe I not only kill all the spiders around here, but also deal with vomit, blood and cat feces. HE can't bear the thought!

Well, women are just as capable as men. But, frankly, around the house and stuff, they are much more helpful! Especially when they don't like doing dishes anymore than a man does, or they don't like painting a house as much as men do. Women and Children First! It makes sense, they work hard like men, and they deserve to be respected. I hope this came out right- Runyan

I'm editing this to add that the person below me seems like a very nice person. :-p

I am going to try and not be offensive. Yes woman call the men to kill spiders but men call the woman to cook and clean.

We are all guilty of sexism, I believe that when they put women and men on this earth we should of come with a book of instruction, so we could understand the other better.
