Depends on engine size, but the legal definition of a moped is 50 cc or less with a centrifugal clutch. I have an Aprilia SR50 Ditech that on the flat does 55mph down hill and with wind i have gone 65mph. Depends on if you get a sport tuned one or a city cruiser.

I had a moped once and the top speed was 40 mph.. Not all mopeds run that fast.

Depending on how much you weigh, I rode my sons moped back in 1986 and I weighed 195 lbs. it would go between 35 and 40 mph. with me on it.

On flat surface you can top speed 50MPH but up hill drops to around 30mph depending on your own weight..
