yo gots to be ready to steal stuff, and hide it in your pants at a moments notice.

It is a cultural thing but it's also because our body types are usually a bit different than white guys. Like for example, most black guys can't fit comfortably in jeans in stores like the Gap, their just too tight in the butt and crotch, and hug the legs too much. So, we wear baggy jeans made just for us by black designers so our lower bodies can breath.
Me and my wife have had this diccussion few times while shopping.
But some black guys wear big baggy coats and shirts mostly to look bigger and more intimidating. Ever see a black guy wearing a huge thick coat in late spring or summer? They're hot as lava in that, it's only for toughness appearance. Little do most know it's hard to fight wearing all that.

Actually, you'll find that the practice of wearing oversized clothing & showing layers of underwear originated in the prisons.
THe one that played the "female" part would dress like this in a showing of submission.
Look into it

why do white guys where pants that are too tight? Hey, it's just style, what you feel comfortable in. I don't understand why some people where crazy make up, black clothes, chains, etc. It's all about what you like. I'm not judgemental though. I see a lot of people who ask questions like these, but in a more immature way, and they don't understand. We all wonder about each other's style...

I've heard people say it's a style adopted by the black society from the gang bangers. The thing that the one guy said about loose clothing is tru. The loose clothes are suppose to make it harder for a person to get hit by stray bullets!

Not most, just some and it's not just black guys. I see people of all races wearing over sized clothing. I guess that's the way they like to dress.

That is stereotyping, that isn't fact. I've seen that on other races as well. I don't know the reason for it but I wish they'd pull up their pants; it sure would give them a more tailored look.

The REAL answer:
It's a look black guys once couldn't avoid; when prison inmates were released, they had to take whatever clothing they could get, and such clothing often didn't fit properly.
This has since been adopted as a badge of "honor", and has been exaggerated to be not just ill-fitting, but HUGE.
This is the honest-to-God's truth.

It's a subculture and crosses racial lines. I feel sad when I see youngsters in their teens (Jr High School and High School students) wearing that because I know their folks are probably living through hell with their behavior.
