I have been using makeup for a long time now, and know what looks good on me, in terms of colours etc. I have experimented with different types of brands also, but haven't managed to acheive one particular look. Everytime i walk into Sephora, the girls that work there look so sophisticated. I love their makeup, but i am too shy to ask.

how can I acheive that sophisticated look? i have try smokey eyes and brown eyeshadow but they dont suit me. i'm indian with fair medium skin, brown eyes and brown hair.

ok i got this from a book...
This look is for day or evening and is most definely to impress.

using concealer and a liquid or cream to-powder foundation, apply a full base.

apply blusher-pronuced cheekbones are key to the look. sweep your blusher up along your cheekbones or,to make them stand out more, just underneath, adding a little highlighter on the cheekbone itself.

using a dark netural color like gray, brow, or black, shades for you upper eyelid and the eye crease. now apply a light shade across the brow bone.

sweep liquid eyeliner across your upper eyelid- at night, extend this about 1/6 inch past the eyelid line in a little flick. this creates a cat's-eye look.

during the day use natural shades for lips that are just one ot two tones darker than you unmade-up lips. in the evening go for brighter, more striking tones.lips need to be perfectly lined and matte, so it really is worth taking your time on them. remember always to use a lip brush.

i hope this helps you out a bit!

Sometimes simple can be very sophisticated. I would suggest using only a black liquid or pencil eyeliner and black mascara on the eyes. With a shimmery gold powder, highlight the lid and the browbone.

You might use a little more shimmer on the upper cheekbones - but just a tiny bit. Use a neutral or light pink blush.

Then go with a dramatic lip color - maybe dark red.

One more thing - don't be shy about the women at Sephora, or the department stores. They're there to help you! Just cross your fingers and approach one of them. You'll be glad you did!

First you have to define what you mean by "sophisticated". If you mean a chic, clean and classic look, then you shouldn't sport the smokey eye look- it's far too sultry and high maintenance.

I suggest you make your skin look as clear as possible, whether naturally or with the help of concealers and foundation. As soon as you have a clean canvas to work on, just use the basics. Define your eyebrows with either brow powder or brow pencil, many women overlook this and it is crucial to your overall look. Use mascara on your top and bottom lashes. A hint of blush works well whether day or night. Lipstick is optional, you want to look 'effortless' and not like you've overdone it.

I learn so much from Bobbi Brown about makeup application. she's the best and her products are great too though a little pricey. her book "Beauty" is so great. then you just need to practice for a while till you get the look you want.

Prep:
Before applying makeup, moisturize according to your skin's needs. Smooth, flawless skin is the key to a professional makeup application.

Concealer:
Cover dark circles under eyes and instantly lift your look by applying yellow-toned Creamy Concealer. Start under the eye, up to the lashline, and into the inner corner of the eye, gently using fingers or the Concealer Brush.
For extra-dark circles, start with Corrector, then layer on concealer.
Foundation is the easiest way to get the look of even, perfect skin."
Start around the nose and mouth to cover redness, then blend outward.

Foundation:
Cover blemishes with Foundation Stick or Blemish Cover Stick in a shade that matches your skin exactly.
Follow with powder to set foundation and get rid of shine.

Brows:
Define Brows using Eye Shadow (match it to your hair color) applied with the Eye Brow Brush.

Eyes:
Sweep a light Eye Shadow (like Bone) from lashline to browbone. Follow with the medium shade (like Taupe or Heather) from lashline to crease. Finish by lining with the dark shade (like Espresso or Black Plum) along lashlines.

Cheecks:
Choose two shades of Blush - one that is the color of cheeks when they are naturally flushed, and one that is brighter for a pop of color, applied over regular Blush shade just on the apple of cheeks.

Lips:
Your best lipstick shade is one that looks great when you're wearing no makeup at all. This is a color that will always work for you. Apply Lip Color using a Lip Brush for precise application.
For natural-looking definition and to keep color from feathering, line lips with Lip Liner after applying lipstick. Use the Lip Brush to soften and blend any harsh edges.

Good luck!

I worked at an upscale salon as a make-up artist for years and had people telling me that before they got to know me they were intimidated coming into the salon. Most of the time I woke up late, threw on my clothes and make-up in 30 minutes and left. They are just used to wearing and applying make-up, that's it. Their clothes, hair and make-up seem glamorous because they dress a little over the edge and do it everyday and it really isn't a big deal to them, same with their make-up and hair. They will be excited to help you and will probably bend over backwards in niceness as well. Go for it and just tell them that you are in their hands and they should go for it too.

Don't be shy! The ladies at Sephora are there to help you with your make-up needs. Just walk up, plop yourself in their chair and tell them you want a new, sophisticated update. There's nothing to be embarrassed about.

use a nice foundation for your face. and line your top with black eyeliner and bottom with white. and only top your upper lashes. gold or burnt orange in metallic would be good. and start in your corner and sweep across your eyelid. and with a darker shade sweep only your outer. and blend with your finger to make a sunset. it always looks great. and with the lighter shade blend some under your eye. only a tint though. not too dark.

foundation? it always looks smooth and clean cut. maybe their hairstyles are what does the trick. sleek hair/pony tails. i think cat eyes are sophisticated. (line your upper lid from the inner corner, 1/4 inch past your outer corner of your eye) if you dont want to ask them how they get their look. ask them for something similar
