And what would be a good year basket case to look for as a project bike that will be a daily rider? I think I would prefer a Sporty-with a solo seat- and a fat Bob tank-and drag bars... ;-)

1969 --- Harley-Davidson merges with American Machine and Foundry (AMF)

1981 --- Feb 26th, 13 Harley-Davidson senior executives sign letter of intent to purchase Harley-Davidson from AMF. Mid-June, the buy-back is official and final.

As far as an old Sporty to rebuild, check the early to mid 80's. A buddy of mine found one with a Sport Bob fender and tank and only paid $1,000.00. They are out there, just hard to find at such a steal.

I believe AMF owned Harley in 1976 only - as far as the rest, I dont know - that would be more a matter of personal preference really
