That depends on your age and bone structure. If you are under 21, a male, have an average bone structure (not small or large) I would say you are on the lower end of average height. Males and females today are taller and heavier than they were 30 years ago.
Judging by my friends children and the junior college students where I used to teach, I would say the males averaged closer to 6 feet, if not taller. I am also speaking of middle class Americans who have been well-fed and have access to proper medical care.

I assume you are male. If so, I would say you are below average.
It used to be 5' 8" males and 5' 3" females, but that has all changed. I am 5' 8", and I note that the majority of males are taller than me.
I am willing to bet it is more like 5' 10" for males and 5' 5" for females. That is purely from observation. Can anyone back it with statistics.
Of course, we are talking western society here. Asians are generally smaller, Polynesians are huge.

The average human height is about 5' 5". AT 5' 8" you are slightly above average.
However you should be aware that that average is for men and women of all nationalities. People in poorer nations are generally a couple of inches shorter due to poor nutrition and healthcare, and women are on average couple of inches shorter than men.
The average hight for American males is about 5' 9", putting you slightly below average. Or to put it another way, 6 out of every 10 men you meet will be taller than you.

Your typical girl ought to think about other typical girls. Half the humans on the planet are females, and 6-foot females are rare. So if your choice is between 5' 8" and 6', then 5' 8" wins.
But if you're including all humans, then 5' 8" is too tall. There aren't many four-year-olds (boys or girls) who are over five feet.

we don't know ( the stats that you see are all based on old military studies or limited surveys of clothing makers NOT REAL DATA the only way to know would be to measure everybody at once and the number would change as you did ) ( this is a SCIENCE answer maybe you asked in the wrong category - lol ) ( as for Brian D --there are entire countries where these heights would be a rare occurrence ) FOR AN ESTIMATE I WOULD GO WITH JAYDE

This question should not be applied to all mankind. Yes we are all humans but we are or were isolated in our own areas around the world. Certain heights were an advantage in certain environments. So when you ask average height, you should ask for average height of your race.

Its a bit of a vague question, because humans vary so much in height, from 3' odd pigmies to Friesen people in Holland which men have an average height of 6'6" so really you should narrow it down to regional average

height of a person depends on the genetics which differ from country to country and the state of living conditions plus environment, i suppose. body is a body complete in all senses whether it is 5.8 ot 6 and even 4.5 ft. there is no difference in functioning of the system.
