My 91 mercury cougar xr7 has a serious problem. the car makes an awful winding vibrating noise when its on. when u press the accelerator, the noise stops, and it starts again once u take ur foot off. when u start the car, the accelerator sticks at first. when u put it in park, it idols very high. FINALLY when u turn off the car, it gives off a loud moaning creaking, almost MOOING (haha) noise. we took off the supercharger belt, and added supercharger fluid. didnt help. any idea on what it could be?? we're desperate for answers and have little money.

Your Idle Air Control valve is making the noise. It is not a major repair. Best way I can describe the sound is like an oil hooting constantly, or a moose mating call or something. We ford techs usually call the IAC valve the "hooter" valve for the noise it makes when it is malfunctioning. This will cause your high idle concern as well.

sorry to tell you this... let me put it bluntly. This Supercharged XR-7 Has reached the end of it's serviceable life time. That means any money spent on this car is less of a down payment on your next new or used car. Whine vibrate noise that gos away with acceleration means possable vacuum type leak that gets pushed away under pressure when the supercharger gets spining. You might locate that vacuum leak with carb cleaner spray around the base of the supercharger and around the manifolds injectors and any seams where gaskets could have been sucked in. When the spray finds the leak the idle will temporary smooth out and idle speed will go down then you know where the leak is... Do you want to extend the life of this paitent? reseal the unmetered air leak. Fire warning! do above outside of the garage on the driveway with a garden hose handy turned on with a squeeze spray nozzel. And start saving for a new car.

Just replace the IAC valve, you will be surprised with the difference.
It's not expensive, and it is even a somewhat common problem when this valve has never been cleaned or replaced before.

I own a 1995 XR7 and have been around these cars a lot. :)
