If its got a sunroof( I know it sounds silly but bear with me)they have a drain tube that runs down the pillar and into your boot then out of the car at the back, these sometimes block up and fill the boot with water, try finding the outlet to this and see if its blocked by opening the sunroof find the drain tube (normally in one of the corners)and pour a little water down it ,if the water ends up on the floor good! if it ends up in your boot BAD!
Also check the boot lid for a good fit and that the seal isn't damaged, and the rear light cluster seal can sometimes leak if its a bit old!!

it could be:
Boot lid seal.
Seals between rear lamp lens and body.
Air extraction vent - this is in the lower rear quarter panel, covered by the bumper skin, in most cars. It has rubber flaps that should prevent water ingress, but if these are damaged or something has got lodged in them they could let some water in.
I would check for the first two before investigating the extraction vent - partially because they are the most likely culprits, and partly because they're easier to see.

it has been raining
sorry could not resist silly answer seems like you have a damaged seal check that then see if you have a drain on there if so replace seal unplug or unblock drain that should sort it make sure you do not have a dent in before replacing seal .
or it might be something as simple as you were carrying some form of liquid in leaky container at some point

a loose quarter panel, perhaps inside the wheel well, or worn rubber lining the lid, or a bottle of water that wasn't capped tightly and thrown into the boot.

pour a large jug of water over the rear screen so it runs over the back of the car, with the rear seats folded down you should be able to have a deek and see where its coming in. rear light clusters can often decide to let water in
