It's a number of things (or could be). Personally, I get depressed for no reason at least once a month, for a few days. My endorphin levels drop, something like that. I just make sure I know where my priorities are. If you find you're getting depressed every now and then, don't sweat it. Lots of people do and they cope pretty well.
However, if you find that being depressed happens quite often (almost every day) and it's keeping you from going out, going to work, doing regular stuff, it's a sign of a serious problem. I'd see a psychologist. Get advice from friends who may have had a similar problem. Find a group. You'll find you aren't alone.

It could be a chemical imbalance. I don't know your age, but I know that teenagers have a host of hormonal and brain chemical issues. If you are a teen, sorry to say, being a teen generally sucks and I do not know many people who look back at those years fondly. We are all glad it's over. There is some trouble with treating teens with antidepressent medication due to it causing problems with wierd thoughts such as suicide etc. - in other words side effects that are not welcome. Whatever age you are, it would help to seek therapy through a counsellor or psychiatrist. In our world we have so many choices, it is hard to know what makes us happy. We are bombarded with the ideals that a skinny body and lots of money are what we should be striving for. However, most of us would not be any better off having these things. Abundance is different for everyone, and we all go through times in our lives when we question our ideals, our goals and where we are on our life path. Therapy is the best answer I can give, having experienced it myself. And if you believe in God, it doesn't hurt to ask him for help on a daily basis and while you are at it, thank him for all you currently have... good luck!! And just to let you know, endorphins are brain chemicals that make you feel good and you can increase these through regular exercise.

Life can be very stressful and some ppl are very mean to you and try to manipulate you. Plus the world is filled with a lot of greed and immorality as well as injustice so in a sense, all those things can be very depressing when u reflect on them but take comfort in knowing that life will not always be this way.

Depression is something that can take over at anytime. Believe it or not, sun and fresh air can help pick you up. Also, don't sit around. Take a shower, get dressed, do your hair EVERYDAY...if you don't the depression wins. And you re too smart for that.
Good luck, Hon.

Sometimes it's hormones. Sometimes it's just a lot of little things piling up, and nothing you can really pinpoint. Sometimes something is bothering you and you don't really even realize it, like maybe a slight change toward you in the way a friend is treating you. And sometimes it just happens. Hang in there, it WILL get better. I'm in my 40's, and in my experience, it always has.

Some people just do. I think it's a chemical imbalance. Go see a doctor, they will be able to help determine what the problem is.
