I personally feel the entire war on terror is a scam to militarize the police, centralize power with the federal government and destroy the US constitutioon to usher in the Pan American Union and end US national Sovereignty. That said how many of you who still believe the propaganda shown on TV buy the line that the brits busted a plot to blow up planes with liquids.

What a sham!

Karl Rove and his Machiavellian managers of the news need headlines to distract US citizens from the disaster in Lebanon (and Iraq!) (and Afghanistan!) and to frighten people into supporting and voting for the status quo. So push the British into curtailing their investigation and making 23 premature arrests.

Of course, we are still in danger of terrorist attacks. I suppose we always will be. And the Department of Homeland Security is hardly moving expeditiously to protect our ports and public transportation, but this ain't gonna do it.

Of course, the very phrase "war on terror" coopts the language to serve the "powers that be" in the current administration (and the Power they would like to become). It is not a "war" in any literal sense of the term; it's a metaphorical war, like the War on Drugs (another phony "war" that gave Bush Sr. a modicum of headlines). This isn't even guerilla warfare. It's a high crime and requires our attention. We need to be analyzing terrorism and doing all that we can to protect ourselves against it. But calling it a war, empowers the adminstration in several ways:

(1) It makes the President a commander-in-chief during "war"-time, and since this "war on terror" promises to be permanent, it gives him permanent power as commander-in-chief in a time of "war."

(2) It sustains the rage and fearfulness that erupted in the US after 9/11. Such rage and fear, Rove and his Machiavellians feel certain, will bring more votes to the Republicans and more vocal anger and hatred out of "Christian fundamentalists." The majority of these "right-wingers" are working class people who are NOT well served by the economic conservatives who make up the main body of the Republican party. But if the body of this economic bird is to fly it needs the right wings of "fundamentalists" and "racists." So give them a "war on terror" to keep them angry and fearful, and keep them ignorant of economic policies.

(3) The "war on terror" is used -- deceptively and irrationally -- as a rationale for the invasion and occupation of Iraq, and eventually Iran, and who knows where else. What is never admitted is that the unsucessful occupation of Iran has increased the number and volatility of terrorists, and not just the al-Qaeda.

(4) The fear and anger engendered by the "war on terror" make many unway citizens supportive of efforts to undermine individual rights in the US, to set up a "unitary" presidency, meaning a virtual dictatorship that ignores checks and balances; and to promote the president as the "voice of God," underming the tradtional, constitutional separation of church and state. But then the Bush clan for several generations has shown its peference for oligarchy over democracy; this is just one more ambitious move in that direction.

Joseph Goebbels was the modern master at using fear and hatred to unite working-class Germans and persuade them to accede all power to Herr Hitler. 'Nuff said.

You know , there are enough REAL problems to solve without fairy tales and make believe . People just don't deal in fiction as much as you would like to believe .
