I'm 16 years old and I've only been to 3 interviews before, job wise. I thought they went perfectly fine, but I never got the job. So tomorrow night at 9 I have an Interview with La Senorita (a mexican restaurant, if you didn't know) and I've applied for a busser/hostess. They're pretty desperate for people to work that position, so, I'm assuming I can't botch things up too much.

But I was wondering if anyone had any serious, good tips on how to give a good interview. Because even though I may have an in for the job, I'd still like to be able to impress them.

Thanks in advance.

I used to interview people myself for jobs...here is why I did not hire people...
You talk too much (ramble on and on)...and say "uh, like,um...."; think before you speak.
You did not ask questions about the job...the responsibilites, the expectations, the training, the schedule.
You did not make eye contact with me.
You spoke badly of your previous employer.
You were not confident in your personality or abilities.
You dressed inappropriately. You are not going to a kegger, on a date, or standing on a street corner. Express yourself on your own time, and look professional...hair, makeup, clothing.

1). Answer all questions honestly. If you can give an example of something you've done before (even if it relates to schoolwork) as it relates to their questions, it will be helpful.
2). Don't worry too much if you don't have ALL of the experience that they are looking for. If you can prove that you are willing to learn and work hard, most employers will look beyond current experience levels.
3). Look them in the eyes when you talk to them. Eye contact is KEY in an interview. If you're looking at the floor, they'll wonder what kind of interaction they can expect you to have with their customers.
4). WHY do you want this job if they are desperate to fill the position? Have to ask yourself WHY they are so desperate, then determine if you are willing to put up with whatever their issues are.
Good luck!

Getting a job at your age is hard. Several states, have laws against it.
However if that's not your case, there is plenty you can do.
Be perky, bright, good with people. Smile a lot, listen to what the say, show how interested you are in their restaurant.
Tell them how much you want the job, and a career with their Company or Corporation.
From a Hostess, you can learn the ropes, go to night school, take management classes and move up higher, to better positions in their company.
Let them know, you want a future with them, not just a summer kind of job to make some ready cash. That's if, that is your plan.
Google the Company, see what they are into, write down some pertinent information, you can use.
It will show, just how much you want to work with them, and how very interested you are.
Good luck, be relaxed, friendly, smile, and dress in a neat and prim manner. Remember you will be dealing with the public, and appearance is everything.

The word “interview” itself makes a person tense who needs to appear in the interview. It is normal human behaviour to become confused or get tensed but such things can be overcome with practice, learning from seniors and elders, thru own experience. At my time internet was not available. These days Internet is a rich source of information. U can learn many things about the interview by visiting the websites the links of which are given below. On some websites u will find questions also along with answers which are frequently asked and questions pertaining to ur requirement can also be found there. It will improve ur performance remarkably. If will infuse a high level of confidence in u. It will make u more frank and it will develop diplomatic qualities in u too. Overall, I would say that it will give an impetus to ur personality development.

The best advise I can give is to be able to explain yourself as a person, goals, activities you like, etc.
Then just be calm and make eye contact with the person conducting the interview.
Portray yourself as eager to learn and willing to work evenings, weekends, whatever. Say that you just want a chance to prove to them that you're a hard worker and they can depend on you. Then be open to cover shifts and willing to stay late to close (shows dedication and flexibility).
You'll surely impress any employer being easy to talk to and being friendly.
Don't forget to dress appropriately, no shorts or bare midriffs and hair cut to shoulder length and or pulled back.
Good Luck and have fun while working or find a new job.

Be yourself, smile and reach out your hand and shake theirs firmly and with confidence and tell them it is a pleasure to meet you. If this is a hostess job they will want someone who is polite and outgoing, smiles and is accommodating to their customer. Do not, I repeat, do not say anything negative about anyone or anything; they really don't want to hear it, but, they will ask you to see if you are a negative person. Let them know that you are eager to learn their business and look forward to working with them. Good luck..........even at 16 you can have confidence and give a warm, personal interview. Go for it!

Dress nicely! A friend of mine owns a restaurant, and he's totally turned off by people who show up in torn, faded jeans and ratty tees. You don't have to totally dress up, but a nice pair of pants and a shirt - not a t-shirt - will make a much better impression.

wear something nice, like a skirt that is on your knees or lower, and a button-up blouse. (no logo t's). do your hair and look your best. also, they look at nails. make sure they're clean. look the interviewer in the eye and shake their hand firmly. be polite and last, but certainly not least, smell good. go for vanilla or something subtle. it sounds crazy, but i've never gone wrong.

At 16, an employer's #1 concern is your reliability. A major part of this is as simple as do you have your own car. You likely will not get hired if you are reliant upon someone else for transportation.

Don't show up more than 5 minutes early. Also, let them do the talking before you start asking any questions.
