In my experience as a child and I have a family member that is also around that age. In my opinion its not because there is something wrong with her mental ability. Its a matter of her psychological and cognitive thinking and her perspective of the way she see things. You should not believe everything she says because some of this might not be true. In my past childhood experience around that age I would also tell my parents that I been seeing things also just like her. For example I told me parents that I saw a chicken on the ground in the apartment we live in back in the days and my parents actually believed me and observed the floor. And then they finally went to the conclusion that it was a ghost...Your child don't seem to not realize reality and right and wrong fully and this is what they do and many child has done this. One of my family member is around your daughter's age and is behaving the same. They are not realizing they are lying and feel it is ok and blend imaginary with reality and they to soon believed that they really saw it. Its a behavior I believe many child has gone through once in their life. In my opinion you should let it be. There is nothing wrong with your child and she will soon grow out of that behavior and you shouldn't worry too much. There could also be another factor that she wants more attention to her also so this is why she is behaving this way.It does not mean wants to lie but also she could be also tell the truth. Also during that age sometimes your child's imaginations will become so strong that she will think she actually sees it also. During that age children tend to speak some of the truth and false and blend them together. Her habits will stop when she is older probably by the time she is 11 or 12.

Assuming this is for his birthday, since it's been a while I wouldn't get too personal a gift - everyone likes to eat out maybe a gift card to a nice bar and grill type restaurant like TGIfriday's or Chilli's with a note saying have lunch on me would be a nice gesture. Otherwise if he's just invited you to his place for a get together or something just take a decent bottle of wine; if you do too much he could take it as more than a friendly gesture.

I think u can just give a very classic present and that food... cos u dun have to buy him gift since u are not that close w him... just buy him lunch or dinner... or if u really need to give him something, i think the most most usual will be a tie or wallet. these will be the most safest gift.

a hug and some nice conversation for starters, if you must buy him a gift how about a framed picture of the two of you from 10 years ago

A nice thing would be a big hug, and perhaps take him out for a drink and catch up. It would be innapropriate to buy a gift.

Something that suits his personality will be appreciated more than a tie or something like that. If he Gardens, get him a plant. If he likes spirits, maybe a nice flask. Think of things he'd really get use out of, or a gift certificate if you're still drawing blanks.

Why do you think he deserves a Gift!? How about saying "long time no see" and consider that enough!

Pictures of him when he was younger in a nice frame would probably be appreciated. I've taken snapshots and had them enlarged (some look great in black and white).
