I don't think the basis of Philosophy is to detach yourself and be logical as much as it about applying logic and critical thinking, even to emotion and our own logic. That is healthy. It's seeking the truth even when one may be in denial for emotional reasons.

I disagree entirely. Philosophy is not about being detached at all. And no, that is not healthy. Logical yes, but not detached. Philosophy is about becoming more in touch with the world around us and the metaphysics that we live under.

Emotion is the window to the soul. We must use our emotions to grow. The only way to truly achieve happiness is to understand and accept ourselves, with or without emotion. Sometimes I wish I could only be logical and emotionally detach myself, but some of the most important life's lessons come from those emotions.

In philosophy, I think it is absolutely correct to detach yourself emotionally to something so that you will have a level mind, fair judgment, and unbiased reasoning. That doesn't mean you don't symphatize with someone who is in misery, it's just that if you detach yourself from the situation, your argument will not be clouded.

The two root words of philosophy are;

philo = love

sophia = wisdom

therefore philosophy is the love of wisdom.

Now, I think we could all agree that for the most part, emotional responses to situations are not always the smartest ones.
Emotions cause stress, and stress is one of the leading causes of dis-ease.
But then, I would admit that some emotions add flavor to life, so I think that the answer to your question is emotion in moderation is OK

I think that would all depend on what it is you are emotionally detaching yourself from. If it's life then I say no it's not healthy.

It's better to solve your problems logically than emotionally.
When I have a problem that is too emotional I ask myself what would I advise my friend to do if he had this problem.
It helps me to detach and think logically without risking my mental health And it helps me to be true to myself.

Being emotionally detached may bode well for you if you're Mr. Spock on Star Trek, but emotions are necessary for your current life and graduation to the next density level after death.

In all social sciences or philosophy you have to be emotionally detached from what you are talking about otherwise your conclusion would be bias.

I don't think it would be mentally healthy to be so detached but I suppose it could be argued that it might be physically healthy.
