Doesn't it seem like the Giants and the Dodgers play each other a lot and doesn't it seem like the Padres and Dodgers play each other a lot? What up with that?

All three of those teams are in the same division (NL West) and thus play each other more often than they do teams in other NL divisions.

In 2001, the baseball schedule was revised, increasing divisional play from 13 games to 19.

What that means, teams in each division play one another 19 times -- more than facing other teams -- which is only right, since these games count more: head to head matchups.

Thus, the Giants and Dodgers will face each other 19 times, yes, but also face San Diego, Arizona and Colorado the same number of times.

Games against non-divisional foes add up to 6 or 7 max, depending on the schedule makers, with interleague play rounding out the 162 games.
