I'm about to finish Deception Point by Dan Brown, and am looking for something new to read. I'm a fan of all works by Dan Brown and J.K. Rowling. Would you be able to recommend any good books/authors that would suit my tastes?

I work at Borders, and customers who have loved Dan Brown have also loved Matthew Pearl, who wrote the Dante Club and the Poe Shadow. They are both conspiracy related novels with past authors/characters as the main characters, excellent reads too, if I may say. Also, the Rule of Four is very similar to the Da Vinci Code, religious conspiracies and the like.

As for books similar to JK Rowling's Harry Potter, may I suggest Christopher Paolini's Eragon and Eldest? It's the first 2 books of a 3 part trilogy about a boy and a dragon, set in a world with elves, dwarves, magic, and evil. Excellent read, and very good. Also, I would recommend the His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman. Excellent fantasy books, also with teenage characters and a quest to save the world. There are parallel universes, witches, talking bears, and amazing things happen. Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson are also in the middle of a trilogy that chronicles Peter Pan's early years, starting with Peter and the Starcatchers. Very fun and amusing.

Dan Brown and J.K. Rowling are two of my favorite authors as well. Since I've finished all the books by both of them, I've been reading James Patterson. That should hold you over for a while, because he's got a LOT of books. Most of his are mystery types as well, but he also has started writing some "chicklet" books, and a couple for young adults. All of his stuff is good though.

I've read at least 3 of Dan Brown's books and loved Angels and Demons the best so far.
I'm just starting a new read by James Rollins called Map of Bones. It's compared to The Da Vinci Code but is supposed to be better. We'll see about that.....
It combines a search for treasure, ( the bones of the Magi) an ancient mystical secret order, the Vatican, Special Forces and scientific researchers.
It , too, scurries around Europe and unites science and religion.
Sound familar?
So far, it's promising.

I just finishing reading Deception Point too... I love it. I've read all of Dan Brown's books... Angels and Demons (prequel to Da Vinci Code), Da Vinci Code (of course), and Digital Fortress. They were all super good. I love Harry Potter too. I also really liked Inkheart and Inkspell which are the first two books in a trilogy by Cornelia Funke (a German author who is been called the German JK Rowling). Other good books by Cornelia Funke are Dragon Rider and Thief Lord. I also absolutely love Eragon, and the second book in the trilogy Eldest by Christopher Paolini... the third one is being written. I read Artemis Fowl and enjoyed them although they are aimed towards a much younger audience, but they still filled my enjoyment for fantasy. Lord of the Rings are of course good and classics as well as Chronicles of Narnia. You might have already read these but just in case definately a good read and I can tell you have similar taste in books as me. Anyways hope you have a good list and you haven't already read too many of these.

If u already executed Harry Potter, then examine Sydney Sheldon's books. those are additionally clever, exciting and suspenseful like Dan Browns. you may examine Mario Puzo's "Godfather" and others. yet Dan Brown has have been given some thing fairly particular type that's incomparable. however you will get only approximately comparable style from Sheldon and Puzo. Then examine John Grisham and Stephen King for greater thrillers.

You might enjoy the Sister Fidelma books by Peter Tremayne. They are historical fiction of a sort with Sister Fidelma as heroine a Brehon Brigadine nun in Ireland when the Christian church was relatively newly introduced with doctrine not yet formed.

The Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman is also quite good. They are more of a mystical science fiction journey.

If you haven't read Orson Scott Card he has a number of good books, The Alvin Maker series is the most famous.

If you like the Dan Brown books, try out Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum. It made the scenes a little over a decade ago and revived the Templar craze in the 90s. You can't beat his respect for history or his sense of humor.

Try reading The Amulet of Samarkand by Johnathan Stroud, it's a nice counterpoint to Harry Potter. Also the obvious suggestion is The Hobby and the Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. Happy reading!

There are a lot of other good sci fi writers out there such as Dean Koontz, a few of James Patterson's books about the children with wings, etc. In your browser put science fiction authors and that will bring up more than you could read in a year. Good luck.
