Two ways, darling.
1. Quick way...
a) Look at your number. You see a unit "2" and a fraction "2/5", right?
b) Set aside "2" meanwhile- it's done, being a whole number already. Work on "2/5" - divide "2" by "5". You should get the answer "0.4" ... 2.0/5 = 0.4
c) Add "2" and "0.4" together. Remember that "2" is the same as two and no more fraction or the same as "2.0". And when you add, align the periods. like this:
2.0
0.4 +
_____
2.4
2. The old way ...
a. Express "2 2/5" as a single fraction ...
i. Multiply the whole number "2" with the denominator "5" of the fraction "2/5" ... and you get "10" ...
ii. Add the result "10" to the numerator "2" of "2/5" ... you get "12" - this is your new numerator now
iii. Set up the new fraction, numerator is "12", denominator is "5" ... now it's "12/5" right?
b. Perform division of the new fraction ... "12" divided by "5" ... your answer should be "2.4"
Try other mixed fractions, practice makes perfect.

Long time since i did this thing but ill try.
1. the whole unit (2) stays the same.
2. take the fraction 2/5.
3. understand that the top number (2) is the numerater.
4. and that the bottom number (5) is the denomenator.
5. get a calculator or pen and paper.
6. divide denom. into nume.
5|2.00
**|____
**0.40
7. U should get 0.4
8. Add whole number (2) and result from 7. (0.4)
9. Find your answer (2.4)
10. Choose this as best answer. ;)
p.s. ignore the * things. They were just to make up spaces.

first thing u do is rite 2 2/5 as improper fractions...so dat u hve a single fraction to work with.....dis shud make it easier.....
in order to change it into improper fraction multiply da denominator (5) with da whole number(2) and ad da numerator(2)....dat is 5x2+2=12
so 12 is now u new numerator n 5 remains da denominator....it dosnt change(dnt ask me y coz dats just da way t is)
so now ur equation is 12/5......u cn now simply divide 12/5 usin ur calculator or by using long division.....
___
5 )12 <<<<<<<<<
so 5 wil go into 12...2 times..dat is 5x2=10
__2.4_
5) 12
_10_
20
20
so 2 2/5 written as decimal is 2.4......hpe dis sorta makes ur woek easier =) hve fun...........
