Would planting trees help stop global warming? I know you would have to plant a lot of trees but surely releasing the oxygen from trees would counter at least some of the CO2?

Yes! You can plant trees or pay someone to plant them for you to offset your carbon emissions. One of the big problems facing the world today is the destruction of the rain-forests, especially the amazon which is a huge CO2 sponge and in many ways regulates much of the earths climate.

Planting trees anytime is good. Since there is no global warming there's no impact.
Trees make great shade, good heat in winter and nice furniture.
We have lots of trees around our house, make the house tolerable in summer.
