Not sure if its the same thing, could be, but I get hot flushes just lasting for say 2 seconds/5 secs and its almost like a panic waves over me. I just try to let my head go into wave of relax and float mode (always seems to be for about the same amount of time too) -I think its when I'm overtired - but as I say may not be the same thing. Good luck.

The problem lies in "Hot flushes" amd not in your sleep. Still, it can be attributed to several reasons. First of all you have to find out the reason for it. As some of the fellows have suggested. It is always better to consult the doctor and then decide the course of action. There seems to be stimulator which you usually take before getting to bed. Identify it and move on.
In India, we find that to every problem there is a solution in Yoga Exercises and some Ayurvedic medicines (Usually made out of herbs). You have to consult some Yoga Instructor for those specific Yoga postures. There is a definite cure of your problem.

i have the same problem. I think it is the beginning of menopause because my periods are not regular anymore. i have noticed that if i eat sugary foods they (the hot flashes) are worse. I bought some black cohosh capsules at the grocery store today it says on the bottle that it is supposed to stop the hot flashes or at least lessen the intensity of the hot flashes.Black cohosh is a herb that is supposed to be beneficial for relieving the symptoms of menopause. Whether your hot flashes are menopausal or not would depend upon your age. I am 46 so i think mine may very well be the dreaded big M.

PLEASE stay away from caffeine, have a fan in a spare room/den and take something to eat before you go to bed. My mum began wandering the house and would get up in the middle of the night and then sat up doing tasks because coffee was filling her system and not helping in her hormone change.

These 'hot flush' habits have ingrained themselves on my mum and 25 years later she still wanders the house and launders, does the dishes, irons and has her brekkie instead of getting back to bed.

I became menopausal after chemotherapy and have hot flushes much of the time. Fit a ceiling fan, right above the bed if possible. And have the window open. There's not much else you can do.

Perimenopause? Fun, huh? I find eating regularily (even small amounts) helps my body temperature moderate itself a bit better. The flashes seem to happen most if I haven't eaten in 12 hrs or more, or nearing the end of a cycle. Pay attention to when yours are worse based on diet and timing... you might be able to help yourself some :)

If unbearable, talk to your doctor (may be having other symptoms?)... sometimes taking a low dose birthcontrol pill for the estrogen and progestrone can help.

Soy isoflavon supplements really helped me out, and some people take snakeroot (Eleuterococcus senticosus) for the hot flashes. Melatonin can help with the insomnia. Not much fun, is it! But it won't last forever, they tell me it's just a few years while the body readjusts (lovely--not). A few *years* sounds agonizing but it will get better eventually.

I stopped eating sugar and mine stopped. Try it! I also bought a personal fan and used that before I went off sugar. Drinking ice water, and ice packs wrapped in a towel work well too. There's a pillow with an ice pack made into it called a "Chillow" but I've read where mold grows in it so I wouldn't advise that if you happen to see one.
